you to the report of the speech made by me at the opening of the extension of the Hospital's premises in March last, a copy of which accompanied my Despatch No. 223 of the 24th. April,

and which gives full particulars of the work done by the

Institution.

4.

The support at present given by this

Goverment to the Tung Wah Hospital is represented by

the drugs supplied to the hospital for such patients as desire

Western treatment and the salary of the House Surgeon. On this year's Estimates these two items amount to $3,000. But as it is proposed to place the House Surgeon on a Sterling Salary

that mount will be somewhat increased. But even when so

increased it hardly represents an adequate return for the

benefits conferred by the hospital on the Community and for

the expenditure which Government is saved by the existence

of this Institution in the maintenance of a pauper hospital

to take its place. I have, therefore, the honour to request your

approval for an annual grant of $6,000 over and above the

items above mentioned and your authority to make the necessary

provision in the Estimates for 1904.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Henry Allahe

Governor, &C..
